Suspect arrested in Dodds shooting
Chattanooga police have arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with a shooting Wednesday on Dodds Avenue.
Johnny Barbour was being held at the Hamilton County Jail on Thursday on one count of attempted first-degree murder, three counts of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and aggravated kidnapping, according to a police release.
Police arrested Barbour on Thursday after receiving tips naming him as a suspect, according to a news release.
Police said three friends left the Fox and Hound Pub and Grille on Hamilton Place Boulevard early Wednesday and gave a stranger a ride to the Gas-N-Go at 1706 Dodds Ave.
When the three told the stranger the ride was over, he got out of the vehicle and began shooting, the friends told police. Michael Kilgore, 25, was hit in the abdomen. He was treated and released from an area hospital.
No bond information was available for Barbour.
Police break up scheduled fight
No charges will be filed in a scheduled fight near the Carver Recreation Center on Wednesday.
Residents called police just before 6 p.m. to report shots fired and a possible fight at 600 N. Orchard Knob near the center, according to a police release.
Officers had been posted nearby earlier to deter the expected fight but left to respond to other calls, the release stated.
A crowd gathered and two people began fighting, then several onlookers joined in, the release stated. Police did not find any evidence that gunshots were fired and there was no evidence the fight was gang-related, the release stated.
The incident had no connection to the Carver Center, police said.
Woman charged with attempted murder
A woman has been charged with attempted murder after her boyfriend was cut with a knife, according to a police news release.
Tamila Sexton, 22, told police that she and Roger McNabb, 24, had been in a fight at their 1641 Bennett Avenue apartment.
McNabb first told officers that he was “jumped by three black males and he was stabbed,” the release stated.
Further questioning revealed that the two were arguing and Sexton called her mother to help her pack her things. McNabb began pushing her, and the two scuffled on the floor. Sexton’s mother intervened, and McNabb moved to hit her.
Sexton said she grabbed a knife and started cutting McNabb. She told police that she “blacked out” and doesn’t remember what happened.
McNabb had cuts on his legs and arms and a stab wound in his back that punctured a lung, filling it with blood.
Sexton was being held in the Silverdale Detention Center on Thursday on one count of attempted first-degree murder and one count of aggravated assault. She is scheduled to appear in Hamilton County General Sessions Court on Nov. 5.
