ATHENS, Ga. – Former Georgia quarterback Logan Gray had an effective debut as a Bulldogs receiver during last Saturday’s 55-7 win over Louisiana-Lafayette, catching a 26-yard touchdown pass from Hutson Mason.
“It was pretty exciting,” Gray said. “I was excited for myself. I was excited for our offense, and then I realized that Hutson’s very first pass went for a touchdown. Then I was a little jealous, because it took me like five passes to even get a completion.”
Gray had ample playing time because of the foe and a limited receiver rotation. A.J. Green was held out due to the freshly concluded NCAA inquiry, and Tavarres King was suspended because of an alcohol-related arrest.
The No. 22 Bulldogs will have King back Saturday when they visit No. 24 South Carolina, but that isn’t expected to result in Gray’s shelving.
“He’s earned playing time,” coach Mark Richt said. “He earned playing time regardless of Tavarres’ situation or A.J.’s situation last week.”
