Hicks gives history talk

Historian Brian Hicks, author of five books, including “Ghost Ship” and “Raising the Hunley,” will address the Monday meeting of the Chattanooga Area Historical Association at the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Bicentennial Library.

His topic shares the title of his latest book, “Toward the Setting Sun: John Ross, the Cherokees and the Trail of Tears.” His talk will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the downtown library, 1001 Broad St.

Publishers Weekly has described the new book as “richly detailed and well researched … a heartbreaking history [that] unfolds like a political thriller with a deeply human side.”

A former reporter for The Chattanooga Times, Hicks is a senior writer with the Post and Courier in Charleston, S.C.

Admission to the talk is free. Refreshments will be served. For more information, visit www.chattahis toricalassoc.org.
