Mount Carmel Baptist Church is looking for Signal Mountain homes in need of repairs and will accept community recommendations through May 15. In addition, the church’s Rev. Steven Granger is recruiting youth and adult team members to repair the homes this summer.
“We will help people that can’t afford labor but can afford materials,” said Granger. “We will prioritize projects by need. We may end up helping some homes affected by the recent tornado,”
He said after many away missions, Mount Carmel Baptist members felt the Lord calling them to help their neighbors at home.
“We hope to have a lot of people on board to help meet a number of different needs in the community,” said Granger, who has construction and roofing experience. “We want people to see Mount Carmel as a church working to help the community.”
He said team members will work on homes, playgrounds and parks in order to exalt Christ through their actions.
Team members will receive nightly chapel services and lodging at Mount Carmel Baptist Church during the repair project, part of Missions on the Mountain Week June 19-24. Taking part in the week-long mission costs $99 per person for lodging, food, a T-shirt and all materials needed. He said the church will bring in two portable showers for team members.
“We are inviting our community and other churches to join with us during the week,” said Granger, adding that regular services are open to the general community as well.
During the mission week, the church will host services at 7 p.m. led by the Rev. Troy Walliser, of Lookout Valley Baptist Church, and music led by Highland Park Baptist Church pastor Eric Lovett along with Tennessee Temple University’s Union Avenue Band.
