UGA’s Fox gets raise

The University of Georgia athletic association approved a raise and contract extension Thursday for men’s basketball coach Mark Fox.

Fox made $1.3 million this past season, when he directed the Bulldogs to a 21-12 record and a berth in the NCAA tournament, and now will make $1.7 million. He earned another year on his contract, which now runs through the 2016 season.

“Mark and his staff have been exceptional in energizing our men’s basketball program,” athletic director Greg McGarity said. “We are very proud of the way Mark represents our institution, and this action is indicative of the confidence we have in the leadership of our program.”

The Bulldogs were 12-20 the season before Fox’s arrival and went 14-17 his first year before achieving the program’s first 20-win season since 2002. They lost to Washington in the first round of the NCAA tourney.
