Defense sharp in Mocs practice

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football team held its third practice of the preseason this morning at Scrappy Moore Field. It was the Mocs’ first day in shoulder pads and they were able to bang on one another a little, though there was no tackling.

“The one good thing I thought about the whole practice was anytime it was a team [scrimmage] situation, I think we had a total of three guys on the ground today,” coach Russ Huesman said. “Sometimes you put the pads on and everybody’s falling, and at least we stayed on our feet and did those things correctly.”

The defense had a good practice overall, while the offense struggled, Huesman said.

“I thought the defense looked really good, great energy, running around, great knee bend,” he said. “Offense: sloppy as all get out today, lazy, sloppy, drops, not in and out of the huddle.”

UTC will practice at 7:45 a.m. again Sunday and will go in full pads Monday, starting at 6:30 in the morning.
