In a notice posted at the facility and in a letter sent to members, YMCA officials said the Sunday closure was necessary because of the economic downturn.
YMCA spokeswoman Lisa Talley said that, because the majority of the downtown gym’s patrons are businesspeople, they tend to use the suburban YMCA gyms on the weekend.
