Festive Forest

The Catoosa County Public Library, a member of the statewide PINES (Public Information Network for Electronic Services) network, has no branches. But that is not the case during December, when the library sprouts decorated limbs and leaves as part of its annual Festival of Trees.

“People seem to love it,” library assisant Melisa Hammontree said. “I think this is one of the best times of the year here at the library.”

The festival has been a regular event for about a decade, though it changes every year as school and civic groups, businesses and organizations, clubs and individuals celebrate the season by decorating trees.

“We have new trees from new places,” said Karol Radovich, children’s services coordinator for the library. “We are trying to fill the windows and the rotunda where it is easier for people to see them.”

This year there will be trees from Ringgold Primary, West Side Elementary and Wood Station Elementary schools. Applebrook Day Care and Kids Station Christian Learning Center also have trees on display. The Agriculture Extension Service’s 4-H Club has decorated a tree, as have students in the GED class at Catoosa Learning Center and Girl Scouts from Troop 40225.
