A 19-year-old Chattanooga man has been charged with setting a fire Tuesday night at the Cromwell Apartments at 3922 Dahlia St.
Chattanooga Fire Department spokesman Bruce Garner said in a news release that the fire department responded at 11:25 p.m. and found the fire was outside the building. It burned itself out with minimal damage to the building and no injuries, he said.
After examining the scene and talking with witnesses, fire investigator Lt. Henry McElvain charged Joshua Anderson with aggravated arson because the fire was set in an occupied building and endangered the lives of its residents, Garner said.
Anderson also faces a charge of harassment.
The woman who lived at the residence asked Johnson, “Why did you burn my house?” He replied, “You shouldn’t have been snitching on my grandmother,” according to a Chattanooga Police Department report.
