The trouble with government efforts to “control costs” for medical care is that costs don’t go away simply because government claims to be “controlling” them. Doctors, hospital visits, nursing care, prescriptions and so forth all cost something, and just “passing a law” doesn’t change that. Somebody has to pay the bills.
In the case of ObamaCare, that bill is astronomical not only to taxpayers, but to the very individuals who are supposed to benefit most from the federal takeover.
Here is just one example.
Included in ObamaCare is a federal insurance program for people with pre-existing medical conditions. The program is supposed to provide coverage to those people until 2014, when the law will force insurers to accept those patients – meaning higher premiums for everyone else the insurers cover.
Well, the federal government predicted about a year ago that nearly 400,000 people nationwide would take part in the insurance program for people with pre-existing conditions.
