SEWANEE, Tenn. – Gerald Smith is one of those professors who is so creative and compelling that “everyone said you’ve got to take a course from him,” said Nashville attorney Dale Grimes.
He took a religion course from Smith and almost 40 years later remains friends with the University of the South, Sewanee, teacher who has sent streams of former students into the world with knowledge and abilities well beyond what academia generally offers.
Some can now slaughter, dress and cook their own meat. And some are using a lot less paper.
The ecologically oriented religion teacher has stuck to a pledge more than 15 years ago to conduct paperless classes.
