Georgia Bulldogs having to update bowl plaques

Georgia’s bowl record in recent years is not only impressive but economical.

The Bulldogs had 23 senior players who were presented plaques last month at the team gala in Athens, and engraved on each plaque was a 7-6 record. Georgia did not wind up 7-6, losing last Friday’s Liberty Bowl, 10-6, to Conference USA champion Central Florida to finish 6-7.

“We always put the season record with a win in the bowl game,” Georgia media relations director Claude Felton said today. “If we don’t win the bowl game we just change the plate. We’ve done it 14 straight years, and this is only the third time we’ve had to change the plate.

“It’s not like we just put it on there because we were assuming a win over UCF.”

Felton estimated the cost of changing out the plates for the plaques at $200.
