Whitwell’s Cole Tucker sets points record

Whitwell High School senior post Cole Tucker became the school’s career scoring leader recently. A four-year starter, the 6-foot-7 Tucker goes into this week’s games having scored 1,638 points.

He has averaged 25 points and 15 rebounds per game this season.

“My coach told me I needed 12 points going into our game against the Chattanooga Patriots for the record,” Tucker said. “I didn’t know it would mean so much to me, but after it happened it’s been pretty special. When you stop and think that only one person per school can say they have a record like this, I’m proud of it.”

Tucker, who also has been a three-year starter at quarterback for the football Tigers, is being recruited by several schools in both sports. Cumberland University, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Middle Tennessee State are all recruiting him as a tight end prospect, while Tennessee Tech and UTC are among the basketball programs showing interest.
