Another candidate emerged Wednesday as a possible contender for the County Commission seat vacated this week by Jim Coppinger.
George Patten, of Hixson, said he will apply for the job. Patten ran in 2009 for the District 3 City Council seat.
“Mr. Patten believes that his 20 years experience in manufacturing management gives him an understanding of the need for a well-trained work force,” according to a news release. “He is looking forward to job growth through new businesses and growth in existing businesses.”
Coppinger was appointed as county mayor this week, leaving his District 3 commission seat open.
Former County Mayor Claude Ramsey stepped down Tuesday to take a job with Gov.-elect Bill Haslam’s administration.
Middle Valley Church of God pastor Mitch McClure also has said he is interested in the commission seat.
Commissioners on Thursday officially will begin the process of selecting a replacement for Coppinger.
