Hamilton County District 7 Commissioner Larry Henry is expanding his leadership role this year, in more ways than his recent Hamilton County Commission vice chairman appointment. He will be serving as the new president of Friends of East Brainerd, a nonprofit group representing the interests of the general community around Hamilton Place.
“I’ve had people say I don’t need to do this because of the politics of it or anything like that,” he said. “I’ve been president of Ruritan clubs, past officers in Rotaries, I’ve been involved with Civitan clubs, so I know what service organizations are.”
He got involved with the group in 2002 when first running for political office, the year FOEB formed. He’s lived in East Brainerd his entire life.
“I grew up in East Brainerd, I raised my family in East Brainerd, my children were educated in this community, I was educated in this community,” he said. “I had a business here in East Brainerd for 40 years, so East Brainerd is near and dear to my heart.”
Despite the pressures and time constraints of public office, Henry pledged to keep the community group near and dear as well.
