We “children of all ages” may thrill with excitement when Chattanooga experiences a really big snow – as we did a few days ago. But after a little while (a very little while), most of us may agree that “enough is enough.” We are ready for quick melting, a recovery to “normal” activities, and an end to the inconveniences of snow.
Our local officials have done a good job opening snow-clogged main streets. But some byways remain treacherous. Some of the beginning melt has produced icy spots that can be very dangerous, inviting car crashes and bone-breaking falls.
Heating units are stressed. People who can’t get out easily and safely may find their refrigerators and pantries running a little short of food. And some who choose not to venture out may have the beginning anguish of “cabin fever.”
Yes, the big snow was beautiful and exciting – for a time. But most of us are ready to try to get back to normal. There’s no assurance of “normal,” though. While temperatures rise during the day, there is freezing overnight. Some rain is predicted, but we’ll see how that turns out – whether it helps or complicates.
Well, after all, this is still January – early January.
