Red Bank Mayor Monty Millard on Tuesday focused on traffic cameras and economic growth during his first “State of the City” address since becoming the city’s highest elected official.
Reading from a yellow notepad, Millard deplored the 78 “empty buildings and/or office spaces on Dayton Boulevard alone,” citing a count that he and Commissioner John Roberts did last November.
He acknowledged controversy surrounding the city’s police department and said he was “concerned about the four lawsuits” against Red Bank, all of which stemmed from last July’s sudden firing of Police Chief Larry Sneed.
In his inaugural speech last year, Millard vowed to find a way to take down the city’s three sets of traffic cameras, but on Tuesday he repeated that “it does not appear to be [financially] possible” to break a contract with American Traffic Solutions.
