Brass group, clarinet choir team up

Two Chattanooga music ensembles will merge their normally single-minded focus for their third annual concert together Sunday.

Musicians in the Chattanooga Clarinet Choir perform on only single-reed clarinets. The Jericho Brass is made up of all brass instruments. For Sunday’s “Battle of Woodwinds & Brass,” each ensemble will perform about 20 minutes of music before finishing the concert with two selections played together.

This year’s combined selections are the Overture from the opera “Nabucco” by Verdi and “The Pathfinder of Panama” march by John Philip Sousa.

Among the selections to be performed by the Jericho Brass are “A Celtic Suite,” “The Kilties” and “Over the Rainbow.”

The Chattanooga Clarinet Choir will perform First Suite in Eb, “Clarinet Polka” and “A Funny Phantasy,” a recently published work dedicated to the choir.
