Marquis Green didn’t touch the ball a lot on offense this past football season for Palmetto (Fla.) High School, but he made things happen when he did. The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is hoping he’ll be just as productive in college.
After visiting UTC earlier this month, the 5-foot-9, 180-pound Green has committed to the Mocs. Green is the third running back to commit to UTC, joining Calhoun’s Dustin Christian and Norcross (Ga.) High School’s Kendrix Huitt, rated a 3-star prospect by Rivals.com.
Green averaged 7.6 yards per carry as a senior. A two-way player who also lined up at cornerback, he rushed for 604 yards and six touchdowns on 79 carries. The most carries he had in a game were 15.
“He’s versatile, obviously,” Palmetto coach Dave Marino said. “He started for us as a cornerback his sophomore year, we moved him to running back last year out of necessity, and he played both ways as a senior.
“He’s a very explosive player, and as he gets more touches there’s going to be even more opportunities for explosive plays.”
