Hot Mocs humbled

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — John Shulman barked at everybody but the band in the first half.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga basketball coach had something to say to his players, the officials and even opposing coach Mike Young — an old friend — during the Mocs’ 88-56 Southern Conference humbling at Wofford.

“I wasn’t pleased with a lot of things, and we were getting our tail kicked,” Shulman said. “If the game is going to get that physical, Wofford is real tough to beat.”

Shulman had a calmer tone and attitude in the second half as the Terriers pulled away and proved why they’re the defending Southern Conference champions. They have a combination of strength, experience, and gritty defense.

“I didn’t have to do anything tonight,” Young said. “They came in 7-0, they had just beat College of Charleston, and we didn’t need any more motivation than that.”
