Horribly misguided remarks

U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Memphis, represents probably the most liberal congressional district in Tennessee. No doubt, many of his constituents support ObamaCare. And considering that he shares their views, it is not surprising that he opposes the ongoing attempt to repeal the socialized medicine law.

But the congressman unfortunately left facts and principled disagreement behind in some extremely disturbing remarks he made on the floor of the House during the debate.

He likened Republicans who have argued against ObamaCare to Joseph Goebbels, the vicious Nazi propagandist who helped build public support in Germany for the slaughter of millions of Jews before and during World War II.

Referring to Republican statements against ObamaCare, the congressman said: “Just like Goebbels, you say it enough, you repeat the lie, you repeat the lie, you repeat the lie, and eventually people believe it. The Germans said enough about the Jews and the people believed it, and you had the Holocaust.”

That’s an appalling comparison!
