‘Peace Testimony’ lecture set

Larry Ingle, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga emeritus professor of history, will present a lecture on “Politics of Despair: 350 Years of the Quaker Peace Testimony” on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Foundation Room of the University Center.

The lecture, sponsored by the Chattanooga Friends (Quakers) Meeting and the university history department, commemorates the 350th anniversary of what has become known as the “Peace Testimony,” one of the central tenets of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers).

Ingle, the author of “First Among Friends: George Fox and the Creation of Quakerism,” written about one of the principal authors of the “Peace Testimony,” joined the UTC history department in 1967 and retired in 1997.
