With only a couple of days left before national signing day, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football program appears to be putting the finishing touches on its recruiting class.
On Thursday the Mocs added commitments from two players who earned all-state honors, defensive end Toyvian Brand of Hillcrest (Ala.) High School and wide receiver Tommy Hudson of Colquitt County (Ga.) High School.
Brand, who made the Alabama Class 6A first team, committed to UTC after narrowing his choices to the Mocs and Jacksonville State.
“Chattanooga has a program on the rise and I know they have a great engineering program, which is what I want to study,” said Brand, who visited UTC earlier this month. “Going to UTC was what was best for my future, and I know we’re going to do great things during my time there.”
The 6-foot-2, 256-pound Brand has a build similar to former UTC defensive end Josh Beard, the 2009 Southern Conference defensive player of the year. Brand was named to the Tuscaloosa News’ West Alabama Super 11 squad after finishing the season with 13 sacks and 16 tackles for loss.
