Ray Drew commits to Georgia

Arkansas-SEMO Live Blog

Georgia picked up its 23rd football commitment for the 2011 signing class and the 18th from within the state this morning when Thomasville defensive end Ray Drew made a nonbinding pledge in his hometown.

Drew is rated by Rivals.com as the top Peach State prospect and the No. 9 recruit nationally. The 6-foot-5, 243-pounder would be the first No. 1 Peach State prospect to sign with the Bulldogs since Atlanta safety Reshad Jones in 2006.

Since then, safety Eric Berry signed with Tennessee in 2007, defensive tackle Omar Hunter with Florida in ’08, cornerback Greg Reid with Florida State in ’09 and receiver Da’Rick Rogers with Tennessee last year.

Drew, the nation’s top weakside defensive end, chose Georgia over reigning BCS champion Auburn, LSU and Miami.
