BlueCross launches mobile member site

Starting today, the 3 million members of BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee plans may use their mobile phones to view key health care coverage information.

The Chattanooga-based insurer announced today that registered members of BlueAccess, the company’s secure member site, will have access through their mobile devices to current information on their deductibles and co-payments and will be able to search for in-network physicians. Members also will be able to create alerts, update e-mail contact information and show remaining coverage.

“Whether they’re standing in line at the pharmacy, watching their kids’ soccer game or traveling, information is literally in the palm of their hands,” Janet McConnell, director of brand strategy and new media for BlueCross, said in a statement today. “This is the next evolution in providing the best value and convenience to our members.”

Morgan Stanley estimates there are more than 257 million data-capable devices in the hands of consumers and by 2015 such mobile devices will be used more than desktop Internet searches.

Now, the BlueCross mobile Web is compatible with the iPhone, Droid and Blackberry devices.
