North Hamilton area residents will start to see road projects moving forward throughout the area now that budgets allotting road expenditures are approved.
Soddy-Daisy plans to begin three street improvement projects this fiscal year, which will be 80 percent funded by the federal government and 20 percent by the city.
Soddy-Daisy Finance Director and City Recorder Burt Johnson said new traffic signals will be the first project to start. New traffic signals will be installed at the intersection of Sequoyah Road and Dayton Pike for approximately $156,000 and at the intersection of the southbound ramp at Highway 27 for approximately $146,000. He said current traffic lights are out of date and need to be updated. He anticipates the installation of mast arms and LED lights.
“We will resurface Montlake Road at the same time,” said Johnson. “The cost estimate on it is $232,000. It’s from Dayton Pike to the end of the Soddy-Daisy city limits on Montlake Road. It should be approximately 6,100 feet.”
He said the city set aside $107,000 in this year’s budget for the traffic signals and road resurfacing projects and that all the projects will be managed in-house.
