Bryan Bird lays block while performing masonry work at a new shopping complex being built in Cleveland, Tenn., early Tuesday afternoon. Developers of The Pointe, a new shopping complex off Paul Huff Parkway, will replace a wetland they are eliminating by landscaping a ditch near Cleveland High School.CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The developer of a new shopping area needed a place to create a replacement wetland, and Cleveland High School has an eyesore drainage ditch on Raider Drive.
“We have talked about doing something there for a long time,” city school board member Murl Dirksen said last week.
“We’re glad you haven’t,” said Mike Price of MAP Engineers in Chattanooga.
Wetland mitigation, under the auspices of the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, already is a familiar topic here. The city is reconstructing a wetland on the former Rolling Hills golf course location to compensate for a wetland removed from the new airport site.
Developers of the new Mouse Creek Crossing at Mouse Creek Road and Paul Huff Parkway faced a similar issue.
