Emma de Groot is still an amateur.
But she proved she’s among the best golfers looking to turn pro in the near future.
The recent University of Tennessee at Chattanooga graduate from Australia tied for fourth in the first stage of LPGA Tour qualifying school Friday at Daytona Beach, Fla. That advanced her to the next stage Sept. 27-30 in Venice, Fla.
“It’s a pretty big deal,” said Mocs coach Colette Murray, who caddied for de Groot this week at the LPGA International champions course.
De Groot shot an 11-under-par 277 and advanced by a 16-stroke margin. But she wanted to win the tournament.
