The Chattanooga Radio Control Club will present the first of three public flying events Saturday. “Warbirds Over the Summit,” featuring scale military aircraft, will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Summit Field near Collegedale.
Director Paul Wright said the day is informal, “just open flying for those who bring a scale military model to fly.”
According to Wright, there are two kinds of radio-control models: ones that are replicas of full-scale aircraft and ones that are not. Among scale replicas, those that emulate military aircraft are the most popular among modelers.
“These are known as warbirds and may be based on any military aircraft flown by any nationality during any period,” he said. ” They range from the first flying machines adapted for observing troop movements in the opening days of World War I through today’s modern jet fighters.”
