Most of us prefer success stories over stories of failure.

Most of us like to hear of someone’s personal achievement, rather than his defeat.

But some people unfortunately seem to invite disaster by their bad decisions.

We recall the ancient Greek story of Icarus, who attempted to use wings of feathers and wax to escape from captivity. But ignoring his father’s warning, Icarus “flew too close to the sun.” The wax that held Icarus’ feathers together melted. The wings disintegrated, and Icarus fell to disaster.

There is something of a parallel in the life of Democratic former U.S. Sen. John Edwards.
