Classes resume at Dalton State

Classes will resume at Dalton State College today at noon after this weekend’s storms left the campus without power, Pam Partain, Dalton State’s spokeswoman said.

More than a thousand households in North Georgia and Southeast Tennessee are still without power after a fast-moving thunderstorm tore through the region Saturday afternoon.

Power was restored at the college at 7:30 a.m., Partain said.

As of 10 a.m., about 1,000 North Georgia Electric Membership Cooperative customers are still without power, according to the cooperative. Most of them are in Catoosa and Walker counties and about 360 out in Murray and Whitfield counties.

The North Georgia Electric Membership Cooperative reported 20,000 homes were without power Saturday. By Sunday night, that number had decreased to 9,000.
