Uncertainty in our three wars

Although most of us are able to go about our lives with little direct personal concern about foreign hostilities, we need to remember that the United States is involved in three conflicts abroad – and it is becoming less and less clear when those conflicts may be resolved.

n U.S. troops have been engaged indecisively for years in faraway Afghanistan.

n American troops also have been involved in Iraq longer than we care to remember.

n And we are now engaged in the civil war in the North African country of Libya, after President Barack Obama ordered U.S. support for aerial attacks on forces controlled by dictator Moammar Gadhafi.

What are our specific objectives in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya? Stop an average American on the street and ask him, and you almost surely will draw a blank.
