Kimball approves spending for initial sewer work

KIMBALL, Tenn. – As Kimball’s sewer woes mount, city administrators are preparing for the heavy price tag that almost certainly will come with correcting the problems.

Anthony Pelham, a civil engineer with James C. Hailey & Co. in Nashville, told the Kimball Board of Mayor and Aldermen last week that there are at least three repairs that need to be completed.

“There are about three or four significant point repairs that wouldn’t necessitate actual engineering plans or a bidding process,” he said. “It would be something where, under a maintenance-and-repair item, you could negotiate with qualified local people to get that done quickly.”

Pelham estimated those repairs could cost $4,000 to $5,000 each, but he thinks the town may get a better deal if it repairs all three problems at once.

“You could probably get that down to $2,000 to $3,000 apiece,” he said. “If you did all three of them and used a good local company, $6,000 to $8,000 should cover it.”
