Judge rules woman’s body buried in wrong plot

RAINSVILLE, Ala. (AP) – A plot in Rainsville’s Town Creek Cemetery is not the final resting place for one woman who is buried there.

A DeKalb County judge ruled Tuesday that the body of Estelle McDowell was buried in the wrong grave a decade ago and should be moved. McDowell was laid to rest in 2000 in a plot of land that was owned by someone else. Three years later, McDowell’s family was notified of the mistake.

Some family members feel the body should stay in the plot, while others believe the plot should be given back to the original owners.

According to the court ruling, McDowell’s family will be notified before and after the body is moved.
