Don’t skew facts of Mideast conflict

No person would disagree that the murder of any person of any age for any reason is wrong and never justified.

However, to highlight the murder “in cold blood” of an Israeli family and blame it on “so many haters refus[ing] to accept the Israelis’ basic right to exist” (editorial “Horror upon horror,” March 29) is to skew the truth and promote uninformed views of the Israel-Palestine conflict.

While the killing of children is never (right), recent reports show that for every Israeli child killed in the conflict, 22 Palestinian children are killed. Yet Israeli child death rates in this conflict are reported 10 times more often than Palestinian children.

From 2006-2010, 94 Israelis were killed while 3,041 Palestinians were killed. While this does in no way justify the actions of the people who killed the Israeli family, we must understand that conflict is fueled more by Israeli violence and hatred, and our newspaper certainly could do a much better job at reporting a more balanced view of the conflict instead of skew the facts in Israel’s favor.
