The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball team got senior weekend off to a good start Saturday evening at Jim Frost Stadium with a five-inning 8-0 win over Southern Conference foe Georgia Southern.
Third baseman Tiffany Baker got the Lady Mocs (33-12, 15-3) on the board in the bottom of the first inning with a single scoring fellow senior Lyndsey Stiles.
Vivian Morimoto and Kasey Tydingco followed with RBIs for a 3-0 lead after one inning, and the Lady Mocs followed with single runs in the second and third innings and three runs in the fourth to seal the victory over the second-place Eagles (28-25, 16-6).
Baker’s two-run home run in the fourth was her 14th of the season, tying the school record she set last year. She also extended her UTC and SoCon career records to 46 homers.
“She is such a great kid. She works her tail off every day to be better and better,” coach Frank Reed said. “People have no idea what [pain] she is playing through. She puts it all out there every day and wants to be better for the team. If anyone is deserving of those accolades, then it is Tiffany.”
