‘Moon’ rendition great in all areas
The Theatre Centre is gracing the city with an excellent “Dark of the Moon” performance. Playing through Oct. 30, it is the perfect Halloween play, exploring issues central to the human condition.
Director Scott Dunlap brings the characters alive. The superb cast which fills out the characters with a believability so intense the magic “suspend disbelief” moment comes frightening quick.
Inventive staging, sets, costumes; sloped stage suggesting all is not on the level. Pay attention to the various angles, for deeper text, read between the lines. Calico cotton dresses and tight pants convey constricted seething just below skin level.
Andrew Chauncey’s musical direction brings life to songs, imparting the magic spell of music: voices project into the heart.
Lebron Lackey, playing John, will be going places in the performing arts. So intense, and the well so deep from which he draws the “Witch Boy” character, it is difficult to comprehend he is but in his senior year at Lee University.
Joanna Key, playing Barbara Allen, showcases her training, skill and craft. Chattanooga is lucky landing Ms. Key.
Do yourself a favor. Take in the superb performance of “Dark of the Moon.” It will be a fall evening well spent.

Many are out to wreck economy
If you’re concerned as to where our country is headed, read both Paul Krugman’s op-ed, “Panic of the plutocrats,” and Cal Thomas’ “The innovation deficit,” on Oct. 12.
Krugman, as always, hammers away at the innovators and job creators in America calling them “America’s oligarchs, who want to suppress any criticism of the sources of their wealth.”
Cal Thomas, on the other hand, correctly expresses concern that “if we penalize and stigmatize success, we are likely to get less of it.”
So what do you think? Is Krugman correct that we should ask the most successful in our land to bear more than 50 percent of the entire tax burden they already pay plus denigrate them for their successes? Is that the smart way to encourage America’s entrepreneurs, investors, risk takers and job creators? Hardly!
Way back when, there were the likes of Marx, Trotsky and Engels intent on destroying the economies of their time so they could create a “workers paradise” which, of course, they would rule. Today, it’s the Krugmans, Bernankes and Geitners with the same intentions … and if successful, will have the same disastrous results.
