ELON, N.C. -University of Tennessee at Chattanooga linebacker Gunner Miller would certainly prefer to be on the field every play, but that’s not his role at the moment.
With the Mocs’ five-defensive-back schemes working well in recent weeks, the former East Ridge High School standout has had his number of snaps cut. But he’s still making plays.
Miller returned an interception 24 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter of Saturday’s 42-18 win at Elon. He also had four tackles.
“It is [a tough adjustment], but it also lets me focus on the little things,” Miller said of coming out of the game more often; he played just 19 snaps against Western Carolina. “With the game plan shortened down, I can really focus in on certain things. It’s working right now. We’re playing really well and have been for the last three weeks.”
On the interception, Miller said he faked a blitz and Elon quarterback Thomas Wilson apparently didn’t see him.
