DUNLAP, Tenn. – Morene Covey looks up at the wall where a blue first-place ribbon hangs next to her heirloom Swiss cotton dress and smiles, pointing it out to her husband, Lyle.

She says she has made several outfits for newborns over the years, but this was the first time she entered one in the Sequatchie County Fair. Her reason?

“Just because I love to enter things into the fair,” she said. “I have lots of quilts, and this time I thought, ‘Hey, I’m going to enter the dress.'”

Winning first place was a complete surprise, she said.

“I’ve made so many of these with more lace and more fabulous. This was a simple little one that I made,” she said.
