RINGGOLD, Ga. – Since its inception in 2008, the Heritage High School softball program has been on the rise, and college recruiters have taken notice.
A pair of Generals, Savannah Goldsmith and Jesslyn Stockard, became the school’s first Division I recruits when they committed to Frank Reed and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga this week.
The two juniors are joined by two seniors that also have committed to play in college. Brandy Goldsmith committed to Lee University this spring while fellow infielder Renae Johnson informed Tusculum College coaches she will accept their offer.
“It shows what kind of work these girls have put in,” Heritage coach Steve Chattin said. “Anytime you can get a Division I program that’s got the reputation that UTC does for quality softball recruiting your kids, that says something.
“I know from talking to Frank and Coach [assistant Amy] Herrington-Woodard that they loved Savannah’s versatility right from the start and that they see her playing corner infield or catcher. They like Jesslyn’s power potential and feel both girls will contribute.”
