Politicians, business gurus, motivational and self-esteem coaches demonstrate and “teach” leadership, or so they claim. Yet, there’s one person Tennesseans know who personifies this quote: “Leadership is action, not a position.”

Pat Head Summitt has been leadership in action, defining the University of Tennessee’s Lady Volunteers’ head coaching position and producing historic performances.

Whether you were fortunate enough to see it in the Lady Vols’ locker room, on the practice floor or in the arena, there were principles that came to life in her team’s performances, guidelines known as “The Definite Dozen.”

These “Definite Dozen” maxims are posted in team areas, talked about and manifested in the commitment of every coach and player in the Lady Vols program.
