Thanks to the efforts of more than 600 volunteers, Red Bank High School started the academic year with 43 refurbished classrooms, according to Barri Harper, project manager for Red Bank’s “Be Part of the Pride” Week in July.
“We originally planned to do just 42 classrooms,” said Harper, adding that improvements were made to all the school’s classrooms aside from two computer labs that had been recently upgraded. “It was a big success for us.”
He said Hamilton County Department of Education is currently involved in the bidding process to purchase solar shades for all the school’s windows, the installation of which is the only work that remains to be done on the school’s interior. Harper expects to complete installation of the shades in two to three weeks.
He said he plans to wait until next summer to begin exterior improvements, such as scraping and painting the canopy covering the sidewalk at the rear of the school, once construction is complete on the neighboring Red Bank Middle School.
“I think this is a big asset to our community,” said Commissioner Ken Welch of the spruced up facilities at RBHS. “I think there’s a rebirth in the spirit of the city.”
