The POV Summer Film Series, presented by the Chattanooga Film Society and Mise en Scenesters, starts Monday with “Guilty Pleasures.”
The film, which bills itself as a “real-life romcom,” looks at the global phenomenon of romance novels.
According to the filmmakers, every four seconds a romance novel published by Harlequin or its British counterpart, Mills & Boon, is sold somewhere in the world.
The film explores the amusing and touching ironies in the contrast between the everyday lives of the books’ readers and the fantasy worlds that offer them escape. It focuses on three devotees as well as a writer of the novels and the male model who appears on more than 200 Mills & Boon covers.
