History program focuses on Ross’s Landing

One of the city’s most visible landmarks will be the focus of a Chattanooga History Center tour on Tuesday.

“The Layers at the Landing: A Tour of Ross’s Landing” will lead participants through what is “arguably the most historically deep place in Chattanooga,” according to Marlene Payne, the center’s deputy director.

“A site certainly familiar to prehistoric people who settled on Moccasin Bend, Ross’s Landing has figured prominently in all the monumental events in the city, including the Cherokee Trail of Tears, the Civil War, the development of business and industry, the environmental degradation and the city’s amazing renaissance,” she said in a news release.

Attendees, she said, can “explore these historical layers on the site where they occurred.”

The guide will be Dr. Daryl Black, the center’s executive director and historian. The tour starts at 6 p.m.
