Chattanooga-based Blood Assurance is asking volunteer blood donors for the gift of life this holiday season. Holiday hours vary. Offices will close at 1 p.m. on Christmas Eve and will be closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Regular hours for all bloodmobiles and donor centers resume Jan. 2.

ELIGIBILITY
To donate, you must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. The process usually takes about 30 minutes and includes a complimentary snack and T-shirt. Donors are asked to drink plenty of fluids, avoiding caffeine, and to eat a meal that is rich in iron before donating.
