A traveling storytelling troupe devoted to the art of the raconteur will stop Friday, Jan. 11, at The Camp House. The Unchained Tour is a nine-city, 11-show bus tour traveling the South to promote locally owned, independent bookstores.
The tour is the brainchild of best-selling author George Dawes Green, who founded the internationally acclaimed storytelling network The Moth. In addition to storytellers, some tour stops feature musicians and circus performers.
“These are not your grandfather’s storytellers,” says an online biography. “Their contemporary stories are drawn from personal experience and are riveting, poignant, hilarious and contemplative.” The Unchained performers believe that the telling of unscripted, personal, porch-style stories is one of the great arts and that nights of storytelling are vital to any vibrant and healthy community, according to the bio.
Green, who lives in Savannah, Ga., will be among the featured performers on the tour. His first novel, “The Caveman’s Valentine,” won the Edgar Award and became a movie starring Samuel L. Jackson. “The Juror,” an international best-seller, was the basis of a movie starring Demi Moore and Alex Baldwin. “Ravens” was named one of the best books of 2009 by several publications, including the Los Angeles Times and The Wall Street Journal.
Other raconteurs on the tour are Peter Aguero, Micaela Blei, Annie Duke and Tim Manley. Christopher Paul Stelling is the tour musician.
