The inaugural Signal Mountain Snowball 6K run/walk and family event to benefit the American Cancer Society is being held Saturday, March 16 from 9 a.m. to noon.
“We wanted to do this to promote the last weekend of winter on Signal Mountain,” said Lisa Bishop, executive director for the Chattanooga chapter of the American Cancer Society, who was asked by the event organizers to allow the organization to be the beneficiary.
The 6K portion of the event will take participants on an off-road trail on the bluffs of Signal Mountain beginning and ending in the Raptor’s Roost development, where additional activities will also be held.
“We wanted to get people to that side of Signal Mountain in a beautiful area,” said Bishop.
The event features a snow-tubing slide with real snow, she said.
“Even if it’s 90 degrees outside there will be snow and snow tubing,” said Bishop.
Attendees can warm up after chilling out in the snow with a soup cook-off among residents of Raptor’s Roost and Falcon’s Bluff, both sponsors of the event along with Pratt Homebuilders and Todd Henon Real Estate. Additional activities for families include face painting, inflatables and gingerbread house building.
Whether or not attendees run or walk in the 6K, everyone can snow tube and enjoy the other activities planned for the day.
Participants in the race will be given a T-shirt and snacks, and male and female finishers in the first through third place slots will receive awards. Race registration begins at 8:30 a.m. followed by the run at 9:30, with all other activities from 9 a.m. to noon.
“It ought to be real exciting for Signal Mountain to have one last blowout the last weekend of winter,” said Bishop.
Proceeds of the event will go to support the American Cancer Society’s educational programs and research, she added.
