Students at Nolan Elementary participate in the school’s new strings program. An after-school strings program is available for the first time this fall to fourth- and fifth-grade students at Nolan and Thrasher elementaries.
“A lot of parents wanted it,” said Amy Shannon, who has been the strings instructor at Signal Mountain Middle/High School for the past two years, a title she now also holds at Nolan and Thrasher.
The elementary-level strings program has been in the works for several years, she added. The new program will serve as a feeder for the SMMHS program.
“We’re trying to grow our strings program at SMMHS,” said Shannon.
Nolan student Ashley Grant said she is excited to be able to play the violin at school.
