Dalton Police are searching for a suspect who they say picked up a lot more than milk and eggs on a recent visit to a Dalton Kroger.

Surveillance captured a man wearing a white shirt who paid for his groceries before secretly picking up a wallet belonging to another customer and removing more than $200 before walking out of the store.

The alleged thief, who took the money shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 26 at a Kroger grocery store located on Glenwood Avenue, appears to be a white or hispanic male with dark hair and a mustache, police say.

The alleged thief was standing in line behind the victim in line at the self-checkout station, when the victim realized that he had forgotten to pick up an item. He left the line to go pick up the missing item but left his wallet. The next customer in line then made his purchases, but before leaving he picked up the wallet, removed the cash and walked out.

The wallet contained two $100 bills, a $20 bill and a $1 bill.

Police waited more than a month to alert the public because an attempt to work with Kroger to investigate the crime turned up no leads.

Anyone with information on the identity of this suspect is asked to please contact Detective Sam Eaton at 706-278-9085 extension 158.
