Stringer’s Ridge Tunnel closing tonight

The Stringer’s Ridge Tunnel on Cherokee Boulevard will be closing tonight at 8 p.m. for maintenance and repair work.

Tennessee Department of Transportation crews will be cleaning and repairing the overhead drainage system, which has been leaking water onto the roadway, according to Jennifer Flynn, spokeswoman for TDOT.

The crews will work until 6 a.m. Thursday morning, and if the repair is not complete they will continue Thursday night, Flynn said.

The southbound detour will be from Dayton Boulevard, to US 27, to Manufacturers Road, and around to Cherokee Boulevard. Northbound traffic will be detoured from Cherokee Boulevard, to Manufacturers Road, to US 27, and to Signal Mountain Boulevard.

Message boards will be in place to help direct traffic, Flynn said.
